Teeth whitening

Teeth whitening is a cosmetic procedure in dentistry. It is a chemical process in which the double carbon bonds in the tooth enamel are converted to single bonds causing pigmentation lightening to occur. Contrary to popular belief, it does not remove anything from the dental tissues as it is sometimes mistakenly interpreted.

Generally, anyone can have their teeth whitened; however, several factors such as the condition of the patient's teeth and hygiene habits are important. Bleaching is not suitable for patients who have poor hygiene, defects of teeth, gingivitis (inflamed gums) or patients who wear a prosthetic. Teeth whitening is a cosmetic issue and today, it is one of the standard procedures as a visit at a beauty salon or hairdresser. It is necessary to visit a dentist before whitening who knows your teeth and can recommend the best whitening procedure.

ZOOM whitening is not suitable for patients who suffer from gag reflexes (as a lip spreader and subsequently the insulating material are placed into the patient's mouth before whitening), which some people are not able to tolerate. Lamp whitening is generally not suitable for cancer patients, patients on medications susceptible to UV light, pregnant and lactating women.

ZOOM whitening usually precedes a visit and consultation with the dentist and a visit to the hygienist is recommended to remove tartar. It is also recommended to make an impression for making professional custom-made fluoride gels that are applied after bleaching and during subsequent aftercare whitening of teeth. A thorough isolation of the patient’s gums is necessary before the bleaching process.

ZOOM Whitening is almost without sensitivity. Almost means that you can find patients who are sensitive, but usually, it is 1 out of 10 patients.

Bleaching does not damage the enamel, and if the patient adheres to the instructions of the dentist and has good oral hygiene habits, the procedure is entirely without problems.

After whitening, the patient should follow the so-called white diet! Avoid smoking, eating and foods that can stain such as coffee, tea, red wine, coca-cola, blueberries, curry, etc.

Bleached teeth usually last for 2-3 years with the proper diet and hygiene habits. It is recommended to use a whitening toothpaste, e.g. BREATHRx toothpaste with whitening effect works well or home teeth whitening or the whitening pen ZOOM can be used additionally.

ZOOM Whitening and its frequency is not limited, other applications may follow as early as three months after the previous bleaching.
