Porcelain veneers
Porcelain veneers represent a modern solution for non-aesthetic defects of the anterior teeth. Facets are thin porcelain plates, which do not cover the entire tooth, but replace its front side in order to improve the appearance, color or shape of the tooth. With the help of veneers, unsightly gaps between the front teeth, discoloration, tooth breakage or damage and dental anomalies in visible teeth can be corrected. Most applications require only two visits to the dental office - it is necessary to slightly grind down the teeth which is performed under local anesthesia. The dental laboratory fabricates the veneer based on the impression and during the next visit the facets are tested and applied. A modern technology called CEREC offers the whole procedure in a single office visit - making an electronic imprint of the teeth, computer modeling of the veneers, the final production of the veneer and its placement.
What do porcelain veneers solve?
Porcelain veneers are thin ceramic plates, which cover the front part of the teeth. They are used to achieve better or perfect shape and appearance of teeth. Veneers can mask stains, discoloration, fillings, tooth surface imperfections or mechanical damage. They can also deal with minor orthodontic anomalies and gaps between the teeth.

What happens prior to the application of porcelain veneers?
Fabrication of porcelain veneers usually requires two visits, often within a few days. It is always necessary to perform thorough dental examination and consultation with the doctor whom the patient introduces to the ideas about the appearance of his/her teeth. If the patient has gum disease, the doctor will recommend curing the problem first and addressing the application of veneers after.
If the application of veneers is possible, the doctor will explain the next steps of the treatment to the patient and together, they agree on a suitable shade. During the first visit, the doctor lightly grinds down the front teeth. Grinding is performed under local anesthesia and it is painless. The doctor then makes impressions of the teeth. These are sent to a dental laboratory where the porcelain veneers are produced within few days. During this time, the patient uses temporary veneers, usually made from composite materials (dental resins).
Placement/application of porcelain veneers
The application of veneers is performed during the second visit to the dental office. The doctor tries the veneers, and if there is no aesthetic or functional defect, the doctor can immediately apply the veneers to the teeth. At the end of the application, the doctor polishes the veneers in order for the look of teeth to be perfect.
Application of porcelain veneers can be also performed during a single visit to the dental office. Using the modern machine CEREC, the whole process including the electronic imprint of the teeth, computer modeling of the veneers, their fabrication and final application of veneers can be made much faster.
Subsequent care
After the application of veneers, the doctor gives the patient all information concerning the proper care. Perfect dental hygiene is always necessary - a doctor or a dental hygienist will provide recommendations and practical information.
Essential information
Although, the dentistry today offers very accurate processing of dental restorations and resistant ceramic materials with durability and color stability, their stability is still dependent on the approach of the patient - care after the patient’s teeth and gums, for example, and caution when biting very hard food.
